Mashyiga Holy Rocks

Mashyiga is not a human being!
This place called MASHYIGA because of the rocks which sustain each other, like an earthenware pot atop three rocks. These are natural rocks bearing certain engrave signs similar to the igisoro attributed to King RUGANZU II Ndoli (1510-1543). These rocks offer an entry to a cave.
On these rocks, KIRANGA and KIHUNDE, two wives of King Yuhi III MAZIMPAKA, were burned alive. They were put to death for having hidden in their house NSORO III NYABARENGA, the king of the Bugesera, the woman wanted his King to behold the beauty of their King. After setting these two women on fire, NSORO III was ordered immediately to leave the territory of Rwanda and sought refuge in Ndorwa.
The Hill of Mashyiga is surrounded by other heritage sites known as Igishubi cya Muganza, the natural forest of urukaragata, the high Hill of Cubi and Marenga overlooking Bakokwe and Nyabarongo, ikiryamo cy,inzovu , ibiti bitanu , ijuru rya Kamonyi etc.
